Thank you for entrusting me with your tube gear. After over 20 years of servicing repairs at Main Drag Music, I am now a separate service & repair business - Patrick Kauffman Electronics, LLC. As part of a cooperative with Main Drag Music, my location is in the back of the Main Drag showroom.

To view more details and changes, scroll below the check-in form.

In addition to repairs, I now focus on classes, workshops, and other ways to bring the knowledge of vintage audio to a greater public. I post often to Instagram and YouTube so that is a great way to follow and keep up to date with what’s going on. I treat every amp like it’s my own and it comes across in my work.

The best way to contact me with a question is through email - pkauffmanelectronics [at] gmail [dot] com.

Below is some shop policy information to help answer any questions you have. Sadly, the cost of many electronics parts (especially vacuum tubes) have practically DOUBLED since the pandemic. The cost to fix an amplifier a few years ago is not the same as it is today.

  • DEPOSIT: All repairs require a $100 (plus tax) deposit ($108.88), which goes towards the final repair cost. This $100 is also the minimum bench fee. With this deposit, you will get an estimate. If the estimate is declined, the shop keeps the deposit for the diagnostic time spent. If you approve the estimate, the $100 is applied to the final cost.

You can pay the deposit in two ways: here or I can send you an invoice.

  • LABOR: The labor rate is $125 an hour. This charge is ONLY for bench time.  I don’t charge for testing amps, email communications, Burn-Ins, etc. A standard repair can sometimes range between 1.5 - 2 hours, so do keep this in mind before you check in your amp. Any amps worth less than $300-$400 retail might not be worth fixing in NYC, sadly.

  • DROP OFF & PICK UP: Repairs can only be dropped off and picked up during my business hours, and not Main Drag’s business hours. Scheduling drop off and pickups is encouraged to ensure you will not be turned away. If I am not in my shop, the employees of Main Drag Music and Precision Guitar will not be able to help you, so scheduling is best.

  • TURNAROUND TIME: Turnaround time varies greatly depending on workload, and I can tell you the time frame at dropoff. If you are doing a virtual check in at Main Drag Music, and I’m not in, I will contact you.

  • REPAIR BILLING: I bill via online invoice and email to you.

  • PAYMENTS IN CASH: I do participate in the NY State 3 Percent Cash Discount Program, in which there is an 3% discount for all purchases using cash. Please let me know if you would like to pay cash beforehand. This must be discussed before pickup to explain the NY state law and make the invoice.

  • AMP PICKUP: You have 25 days from the time of completion of the repair to pay and PICKUP your amp. A storage fee of $5 a day will be applied to any amp not picked up or paid after 25 days. Real estate in NYC is just too high to have amps sitting in storage. In the event that item is not collected within ninety (90) days we reserve the right to dispose of it as we see fit and shall not be held liable for any loss that you may suffer in such an event. The buyer forfeits the item and any payments made when the fees reach the sale price of the NYC item or at ninety (90) days, whichever comes first. No money will be returned for forfeited items. Items are subject to be put up for sale upon forfeiture. If you think you may have reasons for a delayed pickup, such as going on tour or going to be away, contact us in advance to discuss arrangements.

  • WARRANTY: All repairs are warrantied with parts and labor for 90 days. If there is an issue let me know.

Thanks again for being part of this great vacuum tube journey. If you are happy with your repair, please leave a good review on Google . If you think something is not right, reach out and let me know.

Sincerely, Pat Kauffman
